Join us for an immersive and enriching experience as we guide you through the creative process of combining sgraffito and pottery techniques to craft a stunning and functional vase.

What is Sgraffito you may be asking? Well, Sgraffito is a technique where potters put a layer of glaze or slip on a piece of pottery, let it dry, then use a pottery carving tool to scratch at it to show the base layer of color.

Using Sgraffito techniques, you’ll design and transfer intricate patterns, textures, and images onto your vase.

We provide all the necessary materials, from top-quality pottery clay to all of the tools you will need to bring your vision to life. And because we believe that inspiration goes hand in hand with relaxation, we’ll treat you to a delicious lunch from our new Cafe98 menu, a delectable slice of homemade cake and a choice of hot beverage during the workshop.

Once you’ve completed your creation, Lola will carefully fire and glaze your vase, transforming it into a durable and refined work of art. After a few weeks, we’ll pop you an email and you can return to collect your finished vase.

Our workshop is designed for participants of all skill levels and ages. Whether you’re a seasoned artist seeking new challenges or a creative enthusiast eager to try something new, this workshop promises an immersive experience that will leave you with cherished memories and a unique masterpiece to cherish.

Lola Swain

I am a qualified teacher (BED Hons) and have been working in education for over twenty-five years. During this time, I have taught both children and adults in schools, colleges and workshops at various levels and abilities including those with special needs. I am an exhibiting potter and book artist. The natural world is a major source of inspiration. Nevertheless, I find other things influencing my work such as the incorporation of architectural or cultural inspired detail informed by my travels. My pots are hand-built using traditional coil methods with a surface decoration of coloured and burnished slips. Much of my book artwork combines a variety of techniques including lino, collagraph, marbling, waxed etching, letterpress and paper cuts. I exhibit in various regional exhibitions and art fairs and belong to a number of artists’ groups
